The Learning Center
The goal of The Learning Center is to offer services to students with learning differences and to develop the skills necessary to succeed in the Central Catholic High School curriculum. The program is designed to help meet the individualized needs of students in the program.
Admission to The Learning Center is based on a recent professional evaluation. Documentation must be dated within the last two years for new students and within the last three years for students presently attending Central Catholic High School. An individualized modification plan will be developed for each student in the program based on the professional evaluation.
Our mission is to promote skills that develop effective learning and academic strategies to meet the demands of college. We make an effort to promote skills in self-motivation that emphasizes setting goals, taking risks, monitoring performance, making adjustments when necessary and assuming responsibility for oneself. Successful students with learning differences have learned to accomplish their goals by having realistic expectations and by using each learning experience as an opportunity to improve their performance and succeed.
Based upon a child's diagnosed needs, we will provide accommodations, modifications, and/or remediation as needed. At the same time we must devote our energies to developing their God-given gifts. We must help our students to embrace their strengths and their weaknesses, since they both come from God. Our students need to focus on their strengths as a way to manage and improve their weaknesses . Great people did not become so by focusing on their weaknesses. They became great by focusing on and developing their strengths.
