Search Engines are like indexes to the World Wide Web. There are many different search engines out there and each has a different way of indexing their information. Listed below are some of the more popular search engines and search engines that have been reccommended by faculty members.

Ask.com Yahoo! Google
Answers.com MSN Lycos
WebCrawler AltaVista MetaSearch
Dogpile

Not all search tools are equal. And on the same note, not all research strategies work for all information needs. Some tools are more appropriate for certain kinds of research.

The links listed below will help students choose the appropriate search tool for a particular information need.
